Corey Gonzales
My name is Corey, and I am a tattooer based in Brooklyn. I work at Monolith Studio and study under my mentor Oscar Akermo. I just wanted to share a bit about myself here.
In 2020, I graduated from Harvard University (with highest honors), and I thought some money sounded cool, so I started a job at one of the big investment banks here in the city. Surprise surprise that was a super uninspiring path lacking soul or spirit. I just couldn’t do it.
I am deeply inspired by the human body and like to work with forms that can flow along the natural lines and curvatures of the body’s muscles and bones. I like doing larger scale work that can be read from across the room while also seeking to incorporate details that become more and more impressive the closer you get to the work. I use a combination of techniques to achieve my results: I rely on digital tools but also am not afraid to freehand directly onto the body if it yields a better result. I love flow, rhythm, and harmony. I hope it shows in my work.
Importantly, I always believe in collaborating with my clients openly and constructively. Every situation is unique and warrants a different approach each time. I love solving creative problems and value the input that everyone gives me, while always still sprinkling a bit of my essence into each puzzle.
Tattooing has saved my life. I feel honored, lucky, and grateful to be a part of its lineage, and all I can do in return is give it my absolute best, day in and day out. I hope my love for this beautiful craft comes through when we work together.
Thank you for reading; thank you for being a part of my journey.
